History of Acupuncture

In the history of development of acupuncture as therapy, it is started from China about 5000 years ago according to manuscript of different ages of dynasties of China. At the beginning, the people explored around for searching food and property for treat suffered certain disease. During those time, people while warming themselves around the fire, they discovered that the way local warming with hot stone and mud wrapped in the bark or animal skin would relieve certain disease. They practice and improve this method repeatedly and gradually brought being into therapy of hot medication compress and Moxibustion.

In the development of acupuncture, there was so many incident stories. Once upon a time, during conflict between countries, the warrior got good effect in his health after pierce from arrow in his body. Before that coincident, the warrior had health problem. Few days after, they found a reflecting area, like sensation which was not related part with his illness, Then he prick Sharpe material. He noted by chance that the pain one part of body would be alleviated when some other part was pricked. They practice and improve this method repeatedly for their medication. Finally developed Acupuncture therapy.

In different ages different material and medicine were developed, such as, at the Stone Age – the instruments were made from stone for medical purpose as evacuate, prick and so on. The sone needles were called Bian Shi. Like wise, at jungle age – made from bone, horn and bamboo. At the age of broze – the instruments were made from metal like gold, silver and nowadays stainless steel and traditionally 9 kind of needle for different skill.

In the treatment practice, gradually resulted in the acupuncture therapy. Afterwards, the acupoints and channels were born.

The acupuncture and moxibustion were developed theoretically and practically 2000 years ago. The acupuncture and moxibustion technique were spread to the Japan, Korea and then other countries.

In Nepal, the acupuncture technique was introduce 45 years ago, by Chinese people who came for construction of Arniko Highway. During those days, the Chinese people did acupuncture treatment each other, among them, finally to the Nepalese people. From the Nepal Government level, one of the medical doctor, Dr. Ram Man Shrestha got freeship quota for acupuncture in China at 1976 AD which is sponsored by UN (United Nation). He had join acupuncture unit of Bir Hospital (Government Hospital of Nepal) and had continuously worked for 17 years. Afterwards, the acupuncture institute was run formally at the Kathmandu. The first acupuncture institute of Nepal was ORIENTAL TREATMENT CUM TRAINING CENTER (OTTC) at 1992 AD.

Nowadays, the acupuncture therapy became very popular in Nepal as successful technique.
